New Autoranging Clamp Meter from Fieldpiece SC76 Works with All Fieldpiece Accessory Heads
BREA, Calif., January 28, 2002 -- Fieldpiece Instruments, the leading manufacturer of professional-grade instruments for HVAC field service, has developed a new clamp meter, SC76, in response to requests from HVAC technicians for a meter that works with all Fieldpiece accessory heads. The SC76 is the first of Fieldpiece clamp meters with autoranging capability.
"Now our technicians can use all of our accessory heads with their clamp meter," says Rey Harju. Fieldpiece currently supplies accessory heads that measure the following: dual temperature (contact), air temperature, RH%, wet bulb, dew point, air velocity, vacuum (microns of mercury), gas pressure, static pressure, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, milli-ohms, microamps, DC amps, non-contact temperature (IR), and true RMS.
The additional ranges used to read the accessory heads are 340 mV and 3400 mV DC. In these modes, the meter automatically selects where to put the decimal point for the best resolution.
The unit comes with modular test leads, which can connect the accessory heads to the SC76 clamp meter. Also included are two alligator clips so that the user can connect the leads to the circuit without holding the test lead on the test point. In addition, the SC76 comes with the new Fieldpiece K-type thermocouple plug with the "wrap tab", enabling convenient storage of the thermocouple. “We developed the 'wrap-tab' to solve a small but real problem our customers have with lead storage. Now, instead of letting the thermocouple wire get tangled up with everything in your tool kit, you just wrap the wire around the tab.”
The SC76 also features a non-contact voltage (NCV) function to warn the user when the NCV tab is close to live AC voltages. When it senses AC voltages down as low as 24VAC, it alerts the user by lighting up a big, bright red LED, AND sounding a loud beeper. Even if the user doesn’t touch the voltage, the NCV function senses the ACV through the air.
In addition to the non-contact voltage indicator, the high-voltage (contact) indicator lights up a RED LED and beeps whenever the technician touches a voltage greater than 30V. For convenience, a GREEN LED lights up when continuity is detected. All three LED functions are supported by a loud beep from the internal beeper.
Another feature of the SC76 is that it solves the test lead storage problem. The test leads wrap around the body of the clamp meter and the probes snap into the back. The test lead wires are insulated with silicone rubber, which withstands temperature extremes much better than vinyl. They are also more flexible than vinyl.
The trade price of $149 includes the meter, the test leads, the clips and the thermocouple.
